Artist Statement

When I am standing in front of a blank canvas in my studio I contemplate the journey ahead of me and the transformation about to take place. I am interested in this transformation as if were a kind of alchemy one that if examined would yield a structure and a pattern that would underlie and bind the imagery that lay within. These images are like small journeys, narratives that tell of the success or failure of a protagonist as determined by the forces of nature. Lately I have been interested in the idea of birds because they are such small and ephemeral creatures yet they often take on such arduous migrations these often appear to me as allegories, if not for our own passage through life then for that of our human spirit.
