During the month of October, the work of Gallery 114 member F.X. Rosica
will be featured in an exhibition entitled Portlandia: A Series of Prints from
the Field, composed of black and white, and colored prints from sketches
conducted in situ using the region’s public transportation system.
Rosica explains: "Fieldwork is a general descriptive term that is mainly used in
the natural and social sciences to mean work done or firsthand observations
made in the field, as opposed to that done or observed in a controlled
environment. The bus, streetcar and MAX trains provide me with an ideal “hide” –
a cover to conduct my unobstructed field studies of traveling primates. This hide,
typically from the back of the moving vehicle, allows me an unobstructed view
into the lives and habits of Portlanders." |
